TB6 and Grad Art Building, UC Davis

I visited to see graduate student open studio at UC Davis art department.
There are two "open studio" in a year, and it is their second time. I
came for the first one on November 7, 2019, so I have known which artist is
making what kind of art. I expected to see their progress or transitions.
Samuel Arcara is a first-year graduate student, and he got his BFA of
sculpture from the University of Colorado- Boulder in 2018. He is interested in
the human relationship with nature and the rural environment. He brings rocks,
soil, wood, and so on inside of his studio and builds a part of the house. I
think Samuel wants to say that humans see nature as not only the greatness of
natural beauty but also its powerful potential utilized in human lives.
Caz Azevedo is a second-year graduate student, and his art practice is in
performance and ceramic sculpture. Azevedo installed a small water path built
with cray, soil, and small ceramic blocks and recorded that water flew the
installation. He involved deeply with his materials and researched how his materials
reacted by his intentional settings.
Dino Capaldi used oil paints
to paint on the walls and canvases. She seemed that she doesn't have paiting surfaces’
boundaries. Her freely directed brush marks filled her entire studio.
